A lot of brokers are rolling mobile applications, but E*TRADE is clearly the big winner in the category so far. According to the Towers Group and reported by American Banker E*TRADE logged more than 2 million downloads in less than a year. And that number jumped 30% in the first quarter alone. And that’s not all. E*TRADE’s mobile pro app was the most downloaded financial app on Apple’s App store for several weeks after launch.

While E*TRADE is clearly the leader, Fidelity, TD Ameritrade and even optionsXpress are nipping at their heels. It will be interesting to see how things develop. E*TRADE is using an app developed by Vaultus, where as both TD Ameritrade and optionsXpress are using apps developed by Market Simplified.
