tradeMONSTER announced today the launch of a new portfolio analysis tool. According to the announcement, the tool allows you to, "identify risk characteristics" of positions in your portfolio, assess a "risk profile" which looks at the position over time, and perform various what-if analysis.

While we believe most portfolio analysis tools are limited in their ability to provide truly actionable information, we do like tradeMONSTER's attempt to address the issue of risk head-on. Too many brokers and advisory efforts ignore beta in their recommendations.

The tool is, we believe, progressive technology as compared with tools such as optionsXpress trade calculators and optionshouse probability calculators but it is competitive with the tools offered by the Options Industry Council such as the position simulator.
