E*TRADE Mobile Pro Launching on the Blackberry Storm; ETFC, RIMM, OXPS
| 24 February 2010

Not to be outdone by Fidelity's
latest announcement that they've rolled an iPhone application, E*TRADE Financial (ETFC) let us know today that they're releasing a version of their very popular E*TRADE Mobile Pro product on the Blackberry Storm and Storm 2 from Research in Motion (RIMM).
Set to release tonight, the product will take full advantage of the Storm's touch-screen capabilities. Traders will have access to the usual stream of information available to Mobile Pro Users, including:
- Real-time streaming quotes
- Account balances for both E*TRADE bank and brokerage accounts
- Stocks and options trading during regular market and extended hours sessions
- Basic charts with volumes, market overview, news and options chains
- Watchlists
- Internal and external fund transfer requests
Power E*TRADE Pro users will also have access to live streaming CNBC videos, so you can watch Cramer yell at you while waiting for your latte to froth at the coffee shop.
[UPDATE! We've been told that only iPhone users will have access to streaming CNBC videos at this point. While we haven't been given an exact time frame we are told that the streaming service will be available to Storm users later this year. Storm users, enjoy your lattes quietly for now.] E*TRADE's success with these products show just how popular mobile trading has become recently. According to our contacts at E*TRADE, their Mobile Pro application for the iPhone continues to rank among the top free financial downloads in the Apple App Store. And we noted last year that E*TRADE blew well past the
2 million log-in count on the Blackberry alone.
But it's not just log-ins and chart looky-loos. Fidelity, in particular, has seen
triple-digit growth in wireless
trading activity, proving that users do take advantage of the trade anywhere capabilities these smart phones give us.
E*TRADE chooses to develop their mobile applications in-house while other companies, like optionsXpress (OXPS), partner with
Market Simplified to bring their mobile offerings to market.
But patience, grasshoppers. We're told the product won't actually be available until later tonight. Set your alarms and give us a shout tomorrow to let us know what you think.
